Deathwatch Terminators (Part 1)

It's  time to go a bit more elite and add some Terminators to my blossoming squads of Deathwatch marines. Like all of the other Deathwatch projects I am working on, these were started back in August with the hope that I could get some of them done in time for the 2021 Inquisitional Conclave. Clearly, I bit off more than I could chew in the time allotted!

WIP of Deathwatch Terminators.

Before I bought the models assembled above, I had only intended to build-out one squad of them from the odd ball models I had lying about. This got out of hand quickly as some of my choices led me to abandon some ideas in lieu of others. For example, I now have the start of a Deathwing Terminator squad as a result of discovering that filing off the Crux Terminatus on the left shoulder pad, and then filing it down so as to fit the Terminator sized Deathwatch shoulder pad, was far too much work. So those models were replaced.

The filed down pad.

Another abandoned project was the notion of magnetizing all of them so as to maximize the potential weapons load out. After doing this on a single model, and being a bit disappointed in the result, I decided to just stick with the load out I was most likely to just use the most anyway.

Magnetic arm options.

In one of the above pics you likely noticed the Terminator with the red head. That head was a spare from a Space Marine Heros Blood Angels Terminator who, as you can see below, has also been requisitioned into the Deathwatch.

A Space Marine Hero Joins the Deathwatch.

All-in-all, these guys are beginning to come together and soon I hope to have a formidable Deathwatch force to send out to destroy xenos filth and other vile foes of the Imperium.

Blimp Attack! (Art Mondays)

This was a piece done for, but rejected by, Inquisitor Magazine back in the late '90s. This was intended for their Squat army list issue. Here we have an old school, Rogue Trader era, Imperial Guardsmen/Officer reacting to having some of the Guard's assets blown up. And being blown up by a Squat Blimp. It was an actual model in the Epic range called the Overlord Airship. I think I dreamt that GW would make a 40k version of one someday, you know, before they set all of our dreams on fire by essentially deleting the Squats altogether.

This artwork is unofficial and not endorsed by Games-Workshop. Furthermore this blog and this post generates no revenue for it's owner and is strictly used for, and as, a free entertainment resource in support of games by, but again not official or endorsed, by Games-Workshop.

The Last Stand (Art Monday)

Welcome back to Art Mondays. Sorry I skipped a bit this month, it's been a manic time. But anyway, here's one you might have possibly seen before: The Last Stand. It's a lone Squat gunner blasting away the nid horde that is attacking him. Note that limited ammunition... also note the mountain of spent shells behind him!

I still think it's an interesting piece. I remember inking this with pen and croquil.

This has been published before, in Inquisitor Magazine #15. It appeared on the contents page of that issue to showcase the massive 2nd edition Squat army list within it. I did a few pieces of art for this issue, all of which Squat themed. Only a few pieces I did were used, some of the unpublished ones will appear here soon.

Deathwatch: Kill Team Neverness (Part 4)

And, after way too long, Kill Team Neverness is complete! They'll never be called this, as now they are simply the first finished squad of my (small) Deathwatch army.

The three amigos?

This first guy was the last guy for me to figure out what his originating Chapter was going to be. Somehow I have ended up with a sprue of the Dark Angel Primaris Upgrade kit* and they eventually called out to me be included in this squad.

I like how it turned out, and I like the idea of a Dark Angel being led by a Space Wolf. When I run this squad in a proper game it will be led by Erik Axegrinder

Next up we have an Imperial Fist. His pad is metal. I bought a blister pack of these metal Imperial/Crimson Fist shoulder pads around the time that I started working on this during the early months of 40k 4th Edition. In the end this is the only guy in the squad who ended up with one as the other two Marines have the newer Deathwatch arms and the metal pads don't fit very well. I made him an Imperial Fist as the Space Marine novel is still sort of fresh in my mind.

I was satisfied with how his power sword turned out also, even though the side closest to his body is the side I like best...

My favorite model of this trio the Space Wolf guy. Note that I had him originate from a different Great Company than Erik Axegrinder simply for diversity sake. And I have a few of these pads left over from some Space Wolves that I got in a trade about 20 years ago that I haven't had the heart to paint over or otherwise eliminate.

I added the obligatory knife and wolf tail talisman to the model to Wolf him up a bit more.

Grass tufts were added the final touches to these guys. And I was thrilled that Kill Team "never finished" is now, in fact, very much, finished.

And here is the original five models gathered together for a group shot. It's been a long road for them. Indeed. But their brethern are shaping up behind them and soon (relatively, for me anyway) a Deathwatch army will grow from these guys.

They should be done by 14th edition...

*I swear it wasn't so I could litter the bases of my other armies with Dark Angel debris. Honestly, I swear it!

The Inquisitional Conclave 2021

 And the time has arrived.

Floyd Lawton at 1st Legion Chronicles finished painting up this guy that he ordered from eBay. Presenting Inquisitor Tharok Radron, Ordo Malleus:

Inquisitor Tharock Radron.

Da Masta Cheef on the other hand managed to finish his Inquisitor Hubris McClellan

Hubris McClellan.

Since naming the guy after someone he disliked, Cheef also decided that a 2nd Inquisitor with a unique story (and Ordos) would be fun to do. Check out MS-DO5.

MS-DO5.

And Eisenhorn himself is here this year, thanks to DAM.

And he brought along his most notorious minion, Cherubael

Cherubael.

I myself painted an old Rogue Trader era Inquisitor in Terminator armor, who was clearly the visual inspiration for the Inquisitor Jaq Draco on the cover of the original Inquisitor novel, as Jaq Draco

Draco.

I used the opportunity to begin work on my army of the militant arm of the Ordo Xenos, my Deathwatch. The most prominent member finished this past month was the Deathwatch Librarian.  I am still working on this army, when I can, so stay tuned for more updates in September and beyond.

Deathwatch Librarian.

Zzzzz sent in a lot of pics and showed us his collection of Inquisition agents during the weekly updates.

There are a few more out there that I am still waiting for final pics of, so I will either edit them in or give them their own posts.

It's a small gathering this year, but a fun one never-the-less. Thanks to everybody who participated!
