Slaughterpriest (Part 3)

Ready to preach slaughter.

The Slaughterpriest is finished.

Here are the final steps that got him here, continuing onwards from Slaughterpriest Part 2, it was time to add the Blood Red to the armored areas.

Blood Red for the armor.
I then put some focus on the other areas, such as the leather straps and flaps and bronze bitz.

Something was bothering me though. This model is weird in a subtle way and I kept looking at White Dwarf , Warhammer Visions and other places for color reference on this miniature. Then it struck me; I have made a hilarious mistake! His whole leg is supposed to be armored and somehow I was painting it in a what almost looked like he was wearing armored garters and thigh-highs. I corrected the error right away. Mrs. Neverness thought it was too funny and that I should've left it. In hindsight, I did think the models looks a bit more interesting somehow, but fixing it back would be too much work.

Now with full leg protection.
Moving on, I added some bronze to the other metal bitz. He is starting to look more uniform now to his World Eater cousins.

Magenta Ink on his mutating arm.
I started at the hand and thinned it down toward the elbow to create a fading effect. I then washed it with Druchii Violet before highlighting the arm with Bugman's Glow. This technique was taken from White Dwarf (the issue this miniature came free with) and although I was reluctant to try it at first I am pleased with the final results. I had to substitute Magenta Ink for Carroburg Crimson simply because I don't own it. The Magenta Ink seems to be a close substitute. Another added bonus was that I discovered that when thinned down with water, Magenta Ink makes a fine 'blush' tone, great for creating sore and other indications of irritated skin. I applied this in a few stratefic parts of his body and in his open scars.

Mutation arm and Other details finished.
Add with completion of a few minor details the model was essentially done.

Finished - front view

Finished- side view

Finished- rear view.
Now at some point in the New Year I'll be looking to add a full unit of Chaos cultists to my assortment of Chaos goons. After all this guy needs somebody to boss around, right?

"Tell me child, have you bled for Khorne today?"

Slaughterpriest (Part 2)

"Bloody skulls for the bloody guy!!!"

Sounds like I have a decent war cry for this giant Cult Leader, even though I have yet to come up with a name for him. I have, between projects, managed to slap some color onto him however. First I primed the model in Chaos Black spray and then I worked on the foundation coloring for the base.

Primed and color on the base.
Following the steps I pulled from a White Dwarf (and first used by me on my Bolt Action British Infantry) for painting Caucasian flesh, I based coated the fleshy bitz in Bugman's Glow.

Bugman's Glow basecoat on skin.
And followed it up with a coat of Cadian Fleshtone.

 Cadian Fleshtone coat.
This was followed by a sloppy wash of Reikland Fleshtone ink. Also, you might notice in these pics that I was painting up the skulls on this miniature during these stages as well.

Reikland Fleshtone wash.
Next, I wanted to get some of the other areas painted before putting the final colors of flesh on the model. Mostly because I wanted to avoid getting any other color on it. First, I used scab red as a basecoat for the armor. I am going to the paint the armor bits so that they are uniform (in color, not quite style) with the Khorne Berserkers  that I have been working on. I am resisting the temptation to leave him like this...I think that scab red works really well on this guy!

I then painted Balthasar Gold on the areas that will be golden/bronze.

That's it for now, I should have this chap finished soon.

Slaughterpriest (Part 1)

Slaughterpriest needs skulls!

While working on another project (you'll see soon) I somehow found myself distracted by the notion to model up this Slaughterpriest miniature. This is the model that came free with White Dwarf when it went back to a monthly schedule last year.

"Free" with White Dwarf.
Assembling him was a fairly easy, but that chain arm is a bit of a trial. Of course, it will probably be a cold day in hell before I ever play Age of Sigmar so he had to be adapted to 40k. He will be a Khorne themed Chaos Cultist Champion. So I hacked off that gnarly blade he had and swapped it with an Autopistol. He looks like he's flexing with it, which amuses me for some reason. And that autopistol looks proportionally correct on a model for the first time ever. Also, he is REALLY tall! I was told the Khorne dudes for AoS were stupid big, and this guy is no exception. They actually are taller than the new Primaris Marines!
"Cadia died so I could be this big, what happened to you?"
I stuck some grenades on him as well.

Grenades ...and skulls!

The skulls on his base are from the new Skulls Basing kit (which I highly recommend! I can't wait to stick some Tau and Kroot skulls onto my Ultramarines bases!) and I felt they added a cool amount of Grimdark to the model. I used a 32mm base instead of the 40mm base he came with as I thought that I didn't really need that bigger base. Also, he is a cultist leader, not an Aspiring Champion or some other major character so I didn't feel that he deserved the extra prominence on the table.

Ready to be primed.

Since this was modeled today -completely off schedule- I have no idea when I will paint him. But I look foward to it regardless.
